Sustaining Faith, Education, and Rural Hope Across Generations
Kondramutla
Where is Kondramutla — and why it matters
Kondramutla is a rural parish in the Palnadu region of Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, surrounded by small villages that depend largely on agriculture and seasonal labour. Life here is shaped by uncertainty — irregular rainfall, limited livelihood options, and the constant pressure of migration.
Families work hard to sustain themselves, yet access to quality education, stable income, and institutional support remains fragile. Children are often the first to be affected when crops fail or incomes fall, placing their schooling and future at risk.
Kondramutla matters because it reflects many rural communities where steady presence, education, and faith-based support are critical to breaking cycles of vulnerability.

How the Jesuit Mission Began in Kondramutla
Kondramutla is one of the older mission centres in the region, with roots going back several decades. After periods of hardship and decline — including times when famine and migration weakened community life — the parish was renewed and later entrusted to the Society of Jesus in 1965.
The Jesuits, working closely with local catechists and the JMJ Sisters, committed themselves to rebuilding the parish patiently. The mission was not rebuilt overnight; it grew through consistent pastoral care, education, and trust-building with families across villages.
From the beginning, the Jesuit presence here focused on restoring faith while addressing the everyday realities of rural life.
What we have done
The mission in Kondramutla centred on integrating faith with education and care.
An RCM school was established to provide foundational education to local children, many of whom were first-generation learners. Hostels for boys and girls enabled children from poor families and distant villages to continue schooling without disruption.
Alongside education, regular village visits, catechesis, and community gatherings helped rebuild a sense of belonging and shared responsibility.

What is happening today
Today, Kondramutla serves as a rural parish with multiple substations, accompanying families spread across a wide geographic area.
Children continue to access education through the school and hostel facilities
Parish outreach sustains faith life in villages and hamlets
Youth are engaged through formation, guidance, and community activities
Families receive support during illness, crop loss, and moments of crisis
The mission remains a steady anchor in a context of ongoing rural challenges.
