Accompanying Young Lives at a Crucial Transition
Suryapet
Where is Suryapet — and why it matters
Suryapet is a fast-growing town in Telangana, located along a major highway corridor that connects villages, towns, and cities. It is a place defined by movement — students arriving for studies, young people stepping out of rural homes, families navigating change and uncertainty.
For many youth from rural, semi-urban, and economically vulnerable backgrounds, Suryapet represents a turning point. It is often the first place where they encounter structured education, disciplined living, and wider exposure beyond their villages.
Suryapet matters because transitions are fragile. Without guidance, structure, and care, many young people lose confidence, drop out, or abandon their aspirations before they truly begin.

How the Jesuit Mission Began in Suryapet
The Jesuit mission in Suryapet began in response to a clear formation need within the region.
As more young men from vernacular-medium and rural backgrounds began discerning religious and vocational pathways, it became evident that they required focused preparation and orientation before moving into higher studies or formal formation stages.
To meet this need, the Jesuits established a Pre-Novitiate formation presence in Suryapet — a space designed to help young people build foundations in language, discipline, self-awareness, and spiritual grounding.
The mission here was never meant to be permanent or highly visible.
It was meant to be decisive.
What we have done
The mission in Suryapet focused on holistic early-stage formation.
Young men were accompanied through a structured daily routine that emphasised:
Written and spoken English
Personal discipline and responsibility
Emotional maturity and confidence
Spiritual reflection and discernment
For many, this was their first sustained experience of an environment that believed in their potential and invested patiently in their growth.

What is happening today
While the physical structures and locations of formation evolve over time, the impact of Suryapet lives on through the people shaped here.
Those who passed through this stage carried forward greater confidence, clarity, and readiness into later formation, education, and service. The quiet work done in Suryapet continues to bear fruit across parishes, schools, and social missions.
The need for such transition spaces remains as strong as ever.
